Labor Day travelers hit the road

BILLINGS, Mont. - Labor Day is still days away, but a new TripAdvisor survey shows some travelers plan to leave for their vacations as early as Wednesday.
According to TripAdvisor, Labor Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year. The group said 37 percent plan to travel this weekend, up 10 percent from last year. Based on a survey of more than 2,000 people, eight percent plan to leave Wednesday, the majority (33 percent) leaving Friday.
If you plan to drive to your location, plan to leave early. 60 percent of travelers said they plan to drive to their Labor Day getaway. 33 percent will fly, up six percent from 2015.
The Labor Day holiday is the unofficial end of summer, so it's no surprise the top activities this weekend include spending time outdoors. According to TripAdvisor, the top five activities include: going shopping, visiting a park or national park, attending a cookout or barbeque, going hiking and taking a sightseeing tour.
